Writing With the Net Up: Formal Poetry Workshop
Thursdays, 5:45 - 7:45 pm
March 14 - April 25 (class will not meet April 4)

Intimidated by iambic pentameter? Not sure what a ghazal is (or how to pronounce it)? Robert Frost likened free verse to playing tennis with the net down; this workshop is for poets interested in playing with the net up. Each week we will consider the conventions and origins of two to three poetic forms. We will examine sonnets, villanelles, sestinas, and ghazals, among others, as we explore the ins and outs of writing formal verse. Six sessions, $170.

Katie Vagnino holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson College. Currently she teaches
writing at Roosevelt University. Her poems have appeared in journals such as Measure, The
Raintown Review, and Poetry Quarterly.
