Vladimir Nabokov's The Gift
Tuesdays, 6 - 7:30 pm
October 15 - November 19

One of Nabokov's greatest novels, and the last originally written in Russian, The Gift marked a pivotal point in his career. Its protagonist, Fyodor Godunov-Cherdyntsev, is a writer struggling to find a voice that can imbue his art with the power to both represent individual experience and defy the limits of time and space. An ode to Russian literature, densely allusive and wittily satirical, The Gift explores Nabokov's recurrent themes of exile and the relationship between the imagination and the material world. Six sessions, $180.

Mike Levine's most recent Newberry seminar was on Marcel Proust's Swann's Way. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Rice University.
