The Wars of the Roses Sold Out
Saturdays, 10 am - Noon
June 15 - July 27 (class will not meet July 6)

Renowned through its dramatic use in Shakespeare's history plays, the fifteenth-century dynastic conflict between the houses of Lancaster and York features compelling characters, reversals of allegiance, and decisive battles. Using the letters of the Paston family of Norfolk, and treating such people as Henry VI, Margaret of Anjou, Richard of York, Richard of Warwick, Edward IV, Richard III, and Henry Tudor, this course will illuminate the underlying causes of the conflict and consider its consequences. Please read the introduction and chapter one of A Short History of the Wars of the Roses for the first session. Six sessions, $170.

Frank A. Biletz holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Chicago, with a primary specialization in modern British and Irish history. He has taught Newberry seminars since 1994.
