The Rise of Democracy

We will explore the origins of ideas about democracy and constitutional government through the writings of four major thinkers of the modern era: Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and John Stuart Mill. Topics for discussion include the roots of government, personal liberty, and human equality. Eight sessions, $200.

William J. Meyer, is Professor Emeritus of political science from the University of Michigan-Flint. He has taught and published in the field of political theory.
