We will review standards for evidence, proof, citation of sources, and skill-building in Brenda Dougall Merriman's Genealogical Standards of Evidence. We will also learn the accredited evidence analysis and weighing process, then practice it using Merriman's record type examples.

Based on Debbie Kennett's new book, this session walks you through both the mtDNA and Y-DNA testing processes for kinship. It also offers all genealogical researchers (using DNA or not) practical advice on networking and preparing kinship documentation.

Forensic Genealogy Techniques for the Everyday Researcher
"Forensic" refers to the use of science and technology in investigating evidence and establishing facts. This session focuses on the everyday, often overlooked sources of family history to investigate (e.g. photographs), plus new tools (e.g. databases) and tips for in-depth evidence analysis.

Any researcher of U.S. records can greatly benefit from understanding the volume and variety of free genealogical government and municipality records that are covered in Online State Resources for Genealogy, compiled by Michael Hait. We will also learn Adobe quick file navigation for this new electronic index.
