Mansfield Park at 200: An Exploration of Jane Austen's Novel

Saturdays, 10 am - Noon
February 22 - March 29

Last year marked the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, arguably Jane Austen's best-loved novel. Austen anniversaries continue this year with the bicentennial of Mansfield Park, probably the novelist's most complex and challenging work. Although it is less obviously humorous than its predecessor, Mansfield Park asks many difficult questions: how do you stay true to yourself? What do we owe our fellow human beings? How do we define family, home, and correct moral behavior? For the first session, please read Volume 1, Chapters 1-12. Six sessions.

Jeffrey Nigro is active in the Jane Austen Society of North America as a lecturer and writer and is currently coordinator of the Society's Greater Chicago Region.
