Louis XIV, the Arts, and the Glory of France Sold Out
Saturday, 1 - 5 pm
October 26

This half-day seminar will offer a detailed analysis of what Peter Burke called "the
fabrication of Louis XIV": how the monarch used the arts-painting, sculpture, music, theatre, architecture, gardening, fashion, gastronomy, and even luxury industries-to stage and upstage his contemporaries in order to create the image of an unsurpassed French monarchy. After class, participants are welcome to join the instructors at dinner, Kiki's Bistro, 900 N. Franklin St. One session, $80 (does not include dinner).

Jeanine Teodorescu holds a Ph.D. in French and teaches at Elmhurst College and at the University of Chicago. Jeff Nigro is an art historian and lecturer who has had a professional affiliation with the Art Institute of Chicago for 25 years.
