Exploring Chicago's Neighborhoods Sold Out
Saturdays, 10 am - Noon
March 30 - June 1

Using the theme of community institutions, we will explore nine Chicago neighborhoods through a series of readings and walking tours. We will begin with the history of each neighborhood's initial settlement and its changing population and popularity in the years since. Then we will examine the built environment, giving particular attention to residential, landscape, commercial, and institutional architecture, and infrastructure, as well as the community's distinctive local traditions, from ethnic foods and religious spaces to athletic events and artistic objects. Ten sessions, $210.

Diane Dillon is Director of Scholarly and Undergraduate Programs at the Newberry. Bill
Hinchliff is an independent scholar and professional tour leader.
